Yes, it’s true! Rossland had the chance to celebrate with NHL’er Dallas Drake last Tuesday when he brought the Cup to his hometown of Rossland. Hundreds of people came out to watch the parade (myself included) and cheer with pride as Stanley made it’s way down street and on to Pioneer Park where it spent the better part of the afternoon. Dallas Drake, of the Detroit Red Wings, was greeted with jubilant applause and cheering as he made a tearful speech, thanking his coaches, friends, family, and especially his parents. He also spent a lot of time signing autographs and having his picture taken with his loyal fans. It was really something…to be there and see the the Stanley Cup right there in front of you, is more exciting than one might think. You really do get caught up in the emotion of it all. Also, Dallas announced his retirement from the NHL, which really made winning the Cup an even bigger event. It was great that he brought the Stanley Cup home to Rossland, especially since he currently resides in Michigan, and he only gets the Cup for one day. I think it made the locals feel really special that he brought it back here, where his hockey career began. Watch for pictures to be uploaded soon!
